Forthcoming SWESE workshop at ISWC'08: The project partners are organising the workshop which is held in conjuction with ISWC 2008. More details are available here.

TAO ESWC'08 tutorial a success!

The TAO tutorial at ESWC'08 was very successful and attracted more than 25 attendees. It was run in an interactive fashion, encouraging audience participation. One interesting point raised was about the use of Semantic Web technologies within the larger field of Software Engineering, especially in terms of linking code with other external resources. For example, in the GATE use case, one could imagine and integrated refactoring process so that when one refactors a class, e,g, by changing the name of a member or method, then the associated configuration files would get refactored automatically. Generally speaking, the addition of explicit semantics to source code, e.g. by using Java 5 annotations, can be helpful in the development process, especially for large projects.

TAO Video Tutorials: Available now.

Forthcoming TAO tutorial at ESWC'08:

The project partners will be demonstrating key project results at tutorial on transitioning legacy applications to ontologies. Tutorial details and materials are available here.

PRESS/SOFTWARE RELEASES:

Ontotext released version 0.9.6 of BigOWLIM – its enterprise-class OWL engine.
BigOWLIM remains the only engine which can perform non-trivial OWL reasoning with 1 billion statements. While in 0.9.6 the data loading performance was further improved, the emphasize of this release was on boosting the query performance to levels which allow multiple simultaneous users to perform real-time queries against huge datasets. More details can be found here.

Metamatics signed collaboration agreement with Ontotext - Bulgarian Software will be used for research of cancer in children. Published in several news Bulgarian news papers - Dnevnik, Novinar, Duma, Targovski vestnik, 14-16 August, 2007.

SwiftOWLIM v. 2.9.0 - even more efficient RDF and OWL engine with multi-threaded inference Ontotext has just announced the new version of SwiftOWLIM, its high-performance RDF repository with support for light-weight OWL inference and rule entailment. The new version features multi-threaded inference, improvements of the efficiency, reliability and usability, as well as easier installation procedure and several test applications. SwiftOWLIM v. 2.9.0 comes with a test application that loads the standard RDF/OWL representation of Wordnet, comprised of 1.9 million statements, and then infers additional 6.3 million implicit statements, altogether in just two minutes. SwiftOWLIM is open-source library, distributed under the LGPL licence. SwiftOWLIM is used in TAO as scalable and efficient core RDF engine of the developed Heterogeneous Knowledge Store. The full text of the SwiftOWLIM v. 2.9.0 announcement can be read here.
