Ontotext (http://www.ontotext.com) is a semantic technology lab of Sirma Group. Ontotext is focused on research and core technology development for knowledge discovery, management, and engineering, targeted to applications in Semantic Web and Web Services. Ontotext carries out research in: NLP (incl. information extraction and retrieval, lexical semantics), upper level ontologies, ontology middleware and repositories, evolution, reasoning, semantic web services.

 

At present Ontotext has 15 permanent employees and a number of research affiliates. It takes part in several European research projects within FP5 (On-To-Knowledge, SWWS, Vision, OntoWeb) and FP6 (DIP, SEKT, Prestospace, Infrawebs); its researchers have more than 30 publications in refereed journals and international events.

 

Ontotext is a leading Semantic Web technology provider, being:

 
  • the developer of KIM - a semantic annotation, indexing, and retrieval platform;
  • the lead developer of wsmo4j semantic web services API and reference implementation;
  • the lead developer of WSMO Studio integrated service environment;
  • the developer of OWLIM - a high-performance OWL repository, based on Sesame;
  • a co-developer of Sesame one of the most popular semantic repositories;
  • a co-developer of the GATE language engineering platform;
  • a partner in the SWAN Semantic Web Annotator project.

 

 

After all, Ontotext is basically a division for professional software development, focused on a number of interconnected areas involving formal semantics. Role in the project

 

Ontotext’s role in the project will be as a technology provider strengthening the consortium with (i) professional software development expertise, (ii) experience in Semantic Web and Semantic Web Services. Ontotext will lead the development of the distributed heterogeneous semantic repository, contribute to the infrastructure and methodology work, and play a role in the exploitation activities.
